MYTH 14: If my car has factory tint, it doesn't need to be tinted.

You've probably noticed that most trucks, vans, and SUV's come with darker windows on the rear portion of the vehicle. This is known as "privacy glass".

"What is privacy glass? What's the benefit?"

Privacy glass is pigmented glass that is infused with dye during manufacturing to make the windows appear darker. Its only function is privacy and has no additional benefits as far as protection.

how your car windows are made

We constantly receive requests to tint only the front 2 windows because people tend to believe that factory privacy glass already protects the vehicle from UV and infrared light. Unfortunately this is not the case. As we mentioned in a previous article, the darkness of a window has no effect on the amount of heat coming into the vehicle.

So theoretically, even if you were to tint only the 2 front windows of your vehicle with a high quality ceramic film such as the one we use, you would still get heat coming into the vehicle through the privacy glass in the rear. Defeating the purpose of the front 2 windows being tinted.

If you're happy with the darkness of your factory privacy glass but still want added protection, we are able to install a clear ceramic film which offers maximum protection and heat rejection without affecting the darkness. For more information on clear ceramic film, check out Myth #3.
