Some of you may have known someone who could give you an easy pass on your safety inspection regardless of your tint darkness. Sadly those days are coming to an end…

Lately, the safety inspectors have been required to be more strict when it comes to inspecting your vehicle‘s tint. This involves metering the tint and taking pictures to prove that your tint is within legal limits. If the inspector is caught passing illegal tint jobs, they risk having to pay a large fine and possibly lose their job or business.

So what is the legal limit for my vehicle?
You can determine the legal darkness of your vehicle by simply checking your vehicle’s VIN tag. It will either say passenger, truck, or MPV.

If your vehicle is classified as a “passenger car”, the legal limit for your tint is 35% on all side and rear windows. The front windshield can be as dark as 70% with a visor strip no lower than the marked AS-1 line.

For trucks and MPV’s (Multiple People Vehicle), the front side windows can be no darker than 35%. The rear sides and rear hatch can be as dark as you want. Windshield limits are the same as passenger cars.
