Dawn Dish Soap

While dish soap feels like it lubricates surfaces enough to clean, it can actually bring harm to your vehicle’s paint protection.

It acts as a degreaser because of the detergents in the soap. This causes almost instantaneous stripping of any waxes, sealants or coatings.

Although we don’t recommend this for the DIY guys, stripping your paint protection is sometimes necessary if you plan to prep your paint for correction. We tend to strip any remaining protection before we prep a car for a coating or paint enhancement using automotive-grade chemicals intended for that purpose.

For the weekend warriors who want to give their vehicle its weekly maintenance wash, we recommend using the appropriate car washing shampoos and adding a layer of protection when you’re finished.

In my early days of detailing, my go-to combo for weekly maintenance washes that I still recommend today is the Meguiars “Gold Class” line : car wash - (https://amzn.to/4qFOJVq); carnauba wax - (https://amzn.to/3YTm1UW) . For under $20 at your local AutoZone or Walmart, you can have a dependable combo of products that safely wash your paint and leave it with a warm glow of protection.
